Code of Conduct

Who the Code Applies To

The code is designed for everyone involved in grassroots football, including Players, Coaches and Managers, Match officials, Parents and Spectators and Club Officials.

We Follow the Five Key Behaviour Standards as defined by “The Grassroots Code - England Football“

1. Enjoy the Game

•Football should be fun for everyone, regardless of the result.

2. Give Respect

•Treat teammates, opponents, referees, coaches, and spectators with respect.

3. Be Inclusive

•Football should welcome people from all backgrounds and abilities.

4. Work Together

•Everyone involved in the game should support each other and work as a team.

5. Play Safe

•Safeguarding and wellbeing are essential, particularly for children and young players.

Further Clarity of Expected Conduct

Respect for Match Officials

•Referees and match officials must be treated with respect at all times.

•Decisions made by the referee are final and should not be argued with.

•Players, coaches, and spectators must not verbally abuse or intimidate officials.

Everyone should help create an environment where referees feel safe and supported.

Positive Communication

Players, coaches, and parents should communicate with each other in a respectful and constructive manner at all times.

•Disagreements should be handled calmly and privately.

•The club holds a zero-tolerance related to abuse, shouting, or aggressive language towards players, officials, or other spectators.

•Feedback should focus on effort, improvement, and learning rather than criticism.

Fair Play and Sportsmanship

•All participants are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship.

•Play by the rules and respect the spirit of the game.

•Shake hands/Fist Bump with opponents and officials after matches.

Winning is not more important than honesty, effort, and teamwork.

Player Development and Learning

•The focus of grassroots football should always be on development rather than results.

•Players should be encouraged to try new skills and learn from mistakes.

•Coaches should prioritise equal opportunities for development where possible.

Mistakes are part of learning and should be supported positively.

Behaviour After the Match

•Respectful behaviour should continue after the game has finished.

•Players and supporters should thank referees and opponents.

Any concerns or complaints should be raised through the appropriate club channels rather than on the pitch or sidelines.
